Even Better Together
After careful and thoughtful research, AHAVA Memory Care Residence chose to partner with the respected Hearthstone Institute to provide specialized memory care programming to our residents.
Founded by internationally renowned memory care expert Dr. John Zeisel, The Hearthstone Institute has been a recognized leader in the field of Alzheimer’s care for over twenty years. Their mission is to create nurturing environments where people living with Alzheimer’s and related disorders can flourish. AHAVA is one of just a few exclusive Hearthstone-Certified Memory Care Centers of Excellence in the country – and Pittsburgh’s premier resource for Alzheimer’s and dementia.
Founded on caregiving from the heart, The Hearthstone Way means caring for and loving one another. Research shows that this approach leads to a greater sense of well-being and understanding that reduces anxiety and enriches each resident’s emotional life and memories.
At AHAVA Memory Care Residence, we embrace The Hearthstone Way, touching the lives of each of our residents.
Dr. John Zeisel

The Hearthstone Way’s results-driven programming is backed by years of research.
Dr. Zeisel received a doctorate in sociology from Columbia University and a Loeb Fellowship from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design in the early 1970s. He has taught at Yale, Harvard, and McGill universities, spending eight years on the Harvard Architecture School faculty where he taught research methods, housing issues, and social factors in studio design.
